FIRST EDITION OF ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COLOUR-PLATE BOOKS OF MEXICO. The atlas is regarded as among the most beautiful books ever produced about Mexico. It contains 13 double-page chromolithograph plates, each with a specialized map of Mexico surrounded by vignettes corresponding to the map, such as archaeology, botany, rivers, mining, volcanoes and mountains, railroads, costumed ethnographic types, etc. Antonio Garcia y Cubas devoted himself to the study of Mexican geography, history and archaeology, publishing a succession of atlases beginning in 1858.
