PERSIA PAST AND PRESENT. A Book of Travel and Research

(New York: The Macmillan Company, 1906).

A FINE AND IMPORTANT BOOK, PRECEDING THE PUBLICATION OF JACKSON'S LATER WORK ON CONSTANTINOPLE. A beautiful and well illustrated volume perfect for the scholar and the armchair traveler alike. Jackson writes in an accessible style. It is the description of the author's journeys throughout Persia prior to the book's publication in 1906 and Jackson was able at the time to experience the whole of the ancient land.
A fine work, replete with illustrations from the time as well as historically important renderings concerning ancient places and monuments and the culture of the land and its peoples. The book presents a fine combination indeed of both commentary on travel at the turn of the century and a history of ancient Persia and its archaeological sites. Jackson's travels took him from Russia to Tabriz, Urumie, Hamadan, Kermanshah, Esfahan, Persopolis, Shiarz, Yazd, Tehran and the Caspian Region. Item #29875
