PYGMIES AND BUSHMEN OF THE KALAHARI; An Account of the Hunting Tribes Inhabiting the Great Arid Plateau of the Kalahari Desert, Their Precarious Manner of Living, Their Habits, Customs and Beliefs, with Some Reference to Bushman Art, Both Early and of Recent Date, and to the Neighbouring African Tribes.

(London: Seeley, Service & Co., 1925).

FIRST EDITION IN VERY FINE CONDITION. This is an early study of the inhabitants of the Kalahari desert, which was described by Robert Moffat as the “southern Sahara,” arid and scored by dried-up riverbeds. In this well-illustrated volume, Dornan documents the differences between each tribe of this area and explores the aspects of their lives in depth; he describes the geography of their land, their history, their languages, their social structures, their fishing and hunting techniques (at which they were highly adept), their religious activities, the diseases they encounter, etc. Written from the author’s personal experience, this volume helps illuminate one of the most widely scattered peoples of African continent.
