A SHORT HISTORY OF CHINA Being an Account for the General Reader of an Ancient Empire and People

(London: W. H. Allen and Co., 1893).

Boulger s history of China from the early ages and the First Dynasty right up to the Regency reign of Kwangsu and the Chinese social, cultural and political system at the close of the 19th century. It was the author s opinion that British interests in Asia rested on good and stable relations with China, and to that end he considered it important that westerners learn more about the complex and ancient history of this huge nation. The author s first work on the subject was a massive 3 volume history published in 1884. This book is an entirely rewritten history. Its emphasis was on more recent history. Item #20074
