EXTREMELY RARE. An account of Dr. Johnston and his party s journeys in Abyssinia (present-day Ethiopia and Somalia) to the court of Shoa, describing many customs and characteristics of local tribes. It also describes the geography of the land and traces the flow of the most important river and water bodies in the region. This work has only appeared at auction twice since 1980 and is increasingly scarce. Item #21963

A lithographic frontispiece in each volume, and one large folding map. 8vo, bound in three-quarter dark morocco over moire cloth, the spines with raised bands lettered and lined in gilt. xvi, 492; viii, 447 pp. Internally, a fine set, the morocco is later as are the end-leaves, original spine panels laid down onto the new morocco.
