(Boston: Jenks, Hickling and Swan, 1853).

A WELL PRESERVED COPY AND SCARCE IN COLLECTABLE CONDITION. School books such as this one were printed to be used by multiple children over time and few copies survive that are so fresh and usable. Parley’s First Book of History was a staple of U.S. classrooms for decades. The coloured maps are of especial interest. Included are maps of the World, the United States, individual states and regional groupings (i.e. New England, Western), North America, Mexico and Texas. Item #24841

Revised and improved with important additions. With an impressive engraved frontispiece, many engravings throughout and 24 coloured engraved maps. 8vo, publisher’s original blue paper-covered boards backed in black leather, both covers decorated and lettered in black, the spine gilt ruled. 224 pp. An unusually well preserved copy, especially so for a school book of this period, internally quite fresh and sturdy, the maps well preserved, the binding firm and strong with some expected rubbing or wear along the edges, a well preserved copy with occasional neat pencil notations.
