THE LITTLE MINISTER

(London: Cassell and Co, 1891).

SCARCE, especially so in original cloth.
THE LITTLE MINISTER is set in Thrums, a Scottish weaving village based on Barrie s birthplace, and concerns Gavin Dishart, a young impoverished minister with his first congregation. The weavers he serves soon riot in protest against reductions in their wages and harsh working conditions. It was Barrie s first work to achieve a high level of success and largely established his reputation. It is a sentimental novel that Barrie would also later produce on stage, again successfully. The work was written over 15 years prior to the introduction of his most famous character, Peter Pan. Item #2825
