ANGOLA AND THE RIVER CONGO

(London: Macmillan, 1875).

RARE FIRST EDITION. Monteiro spent many years traveling the country between the Congo River and Mossamedes or Little Fish Bay, a region comprising ten degrees of latitude in tropical Africa (present-day Angola). He has written a complete description of his travels and explorations over many years in Africa. He covers the land between the River Zaire and Mossamedes and includes all aspects of his experiences including the salient aspects of native life, manners, and customs. The illustrations are particularly beautiful. A scarce work by this Portuguese explorer, and a difficult book to find in nice condition. Item #29011
