Wimbush is well remembered for his landscapes, such as those found within this book. Each of the paintings presented here shows us a lovely scene from the Channel Islands, whether from Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, or Sark. Colourful local people are shown within many of the paintings as well, each person going about the country life. Wimbush was no stranger to this style of picturesque travel art as he was also the leading artist for postcard company Raphael Tuck & Sons. Item #30155

With 76 colourplates after paintings by Henry Wimbush, each with a captioned tissue guard, and with a folding map. 8vo, in the publisher's very pretty original binding of decorated navy blue cloth. The spine and upper cover with a paneled design featuring a shield with three lions in green, brown, red and bright gilt, and with gilt lettering, t.e.g. xiii, 294, 4 ads, pp. A lovely copy, Wimbush's plates are bright and fine, the text is far better than is typically seen with only a little very light and occasional foxing, the binding just lightly agedl. A far better than normal copy.
