RARE UNCORRECTED PROOF OF THE AMERICAN FIRST EDITION, Toshi Maruki is highly regarded as an artist in her native Japan. Since the end of World War II, she and her husband In Maruki have been actively engaged in campaigning for nuclear disarmament and world peace. In addition to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the subjects of her paintings have included the Minamata tragedy and genocide during the Japanese occupation of Nanking.
HIROSHIMA NO PIKA was awarded the Ehon Nippon Prize (for the most excellent picture book of Japan) an annual award given by the Yomiuri ShimbOn Press. (From the dustjacket) Publisher's Weekly called it "A forceful statement of the need for nuclear disarmament." Item #31112

First edition, RARE uncorrected colour proofs. Words and pictures all throughout by Toshi Maruki. Square 4to, the complete unstitched sheets laid portfolio style into a colour proof of the dustjacket, "Uncorrected Color Proofs" stamped on the jacket front. [48pp, unpaginated] The leaves in mint condition, pristine, the jacket also pristine and stamped as required by the publisher.
