TAKE A GIRL LIKE YOU
(London: Victor Gollancz Ltd, 1960).
A VERY BRIGHT FIRST EDITION OF THIS COMIC NOVEL, by, "the finest English comic novelist of the second half of the twentieth century." - Zachary Leader.
The plot of TAKE A GIRL LIKE YOU follows traditional realistic conventions and has been compared to that of Samuel Richardson's 1748 novel CLARRISSA. Like Clarissa, our heroine is young, beautiful and virtuous and attempts to defend her virginity, but while providing every opportunity for the next assault on it. Item #31561
First edition. 8vo, publisher's original salmon cloth lettered on the spine in gilt, in the scarce original dustjacket of yellow paper printed in black and red. 320 pp. A very nice copy, the text just slightly mellowed due to the paper used in production, a bit of spotting at the prelims, the cloth fresh and bright and very nicely preserved, the jacket bright with some general mellowing and a little rubbing at the tips.
