FINE CIVIL WAR WRITING AND an important collaboration, a must for any civil war collection and a valuable tool for the historian or general reader. This is the true first edition, created from The Century War Series compiled by the editors of Century Magazine. The work is, for the most part, inclusive of contributions by actual Union and Confederate Officers. The writing is very well done and the chapters on the many battles of the Civil War are written by the generals who led and those who participated in the actual battles. By way of example, the chapters concerning the campaign of the First Bull Run are written General James B. Fry who writes of the advance to Bull Run, General G.T. Beauregard who writes of the First Battle of Bull Run, General John Imboden describes the Incidents of the First Bull Run, General Joseph E. Johnston describes the responibilities, Colonel Northrup writes of the Confederates at Manassas and Major C. Brown on General Ewell at Bull Run. A superb source book on the battles and especially well illuminated with many maps, plans and illustrations. Item #32028
