OZMA OF OZ. A Record of Her Adventures with Dorothy Gale of Kansas...

(Chicago: The Reilly & Lee Co., N.D. but after 1934).

EARLY PRINTING IN THE REILLY & LEE CANON. One of the earlier titles in the ever popular Oz series, it was only the third and many consider it to the first in which Baum was clearly intending Oz to become an ongoing series. The character Ozma appeared in every OZ story except the first one and this story introduces the popular character Tik-Tok, who is widely considered to be one of the first robots to appear in modern literature.
Over the course of years many illustrators would try to tackle Baum’s immensely imaginative creations but Neill was the most prolific, and his remain the classic images we picture in our minds when we think about these wonderful children’s book. Item #32073

Illustrated throughout in black and white by John R. Neill. Large 8vo, publisher’s original green cloth lettered and decorated on the spine in black, with the pictorial pastedown on the upper cover printed in colours. 270. A very nice copy, unusually well preserved with just a touch of wear to the extremities.
