THE CARL H. PFORZHEIMER LIBRARY: ENGLISH LITERATURE 1475-1700

(New Castle and Los Angeles: The Oak Knoll Press and Heritage Book Shop, Inc., 1997).

A HANDSOME SET OF THIS HIGHLY IMPORTANT BIBLIOGRAPHIC WORK, and an extremely useful reference for any collectors or scholars of early English literature and printing. It is truly an immensely useful resource.
Originally published privately in 1940, this catalogue contains detailed and extensive bibliographical entries of a comprehensive collection of English literature published from between 1475 and 1700. Included are such landmark works as the King James Bible (the keystone to any such collection) and early appearances of work from writers such as Bacon, Shakespeare, and Spenser. These volumes are reprinted in facsimile to preserve the “inimitable style” of William Alexander Jackson, the original compiler of the catalogue. There are however several useful editions added to it; these include a table of contents and list of additional acquisitions since 1940. Item #32332
