Charlotte was the most prodigious writer of the three sisters and her works are considered classics of Victorian Literature. She relied on her own unhappy experiences as inspiration for much of the material in her novels. The eldest of the three, she would outlive both of her sisters. Item #32474

First Edition. Limited to 460 examples only. Printed in English. Illustrated with 17 fine and original lithographs by Ethel Garain, printed on fine Japon in London at the Presses of Vincent Brooks Day and Son under the direction of the artist. Folio (14.5" x 11"), Beautifully bound by Durst, Rel. in a contemporary binding of full dark-blue morocco, the covers with triple gilt fillet rules at the borders, the spine with raised bands gilt ruled, three compartments triple gilt fillet ruled, creating panels within the compartments, two compartments lettered in gilt, elaborate gilt multi-rolled and tooled turnovers, silk ribbon markers, edges gilt ruled, moire silk endleaves and double French marbled paper endleaves, top edge gilt. [2], 258, [2], [1 colophon] pp. A very handsome copy, the text-block and illustrations beautifully preserved throughout, the binding also very attractive but unfortunately with the front board nearly detached, otherwise a fine copy.
