BRABANT AND EAST FLANDERS Text by George W.T. Osmond

BRABANT AND EAST FLANDERS Text by George W.T. Osmond

(London: A. & C. Black, nd).

FIRST EDITION. An impressive example of an A. & C. Black s illustrated travel book. Employing the local color palette of grays, browns, and blacks, with notes of red and blue in costumes and skies, Forestier achieves great atmospheric renderings of this historic area. The quality of austerity is highlighted by glimpses of colorful stained glass windows and verdant meadows. Sir Amédée Forestier was an Anglo-French artist and illustrator who specialized in historical scenes, and landscapes. His paintings are notable for their attention to detail. Item #32533

First Edition. With 20 distinguished colour plates by Amedee Forestier. 8vo, publisher's original red cloth, lettered in gilt and decorated in black and orange on the upper cover and spine panel in a handsome art-deco design, t.e.g. vii, 127, 2 ads pp. A very nice copy, clean, the binding in excellent condition with some mellowing at the spine panel, internally with just a minimal amount of the spotting typical to the title, the illustrations and plates perfectly preserved.
