HEDGE SCHOOL Sonnets From Glanmore

(Newark, VT.: At the Janus Press for Charles Seluzicki Fine Books, Salem, OR., 1979).

FIRST EDITION OF A VERY LIMITED AND TWICE-SIGNED PRINTING OF TEN SONNETS BY NOBEL PRIZE-WINNING POET SEAMUS HEANEY. These are powerful youthful writings by the man who would go on to be considered one of the greatest poets of his generation.
Heaney says, in his introduction, "During the previous ten years I had been teaching in Belfast but now, thanks to Ann Saddlemeyer who gave us the run of Glanmore Cottage, I was cast adrift into a life where my commitments as a writer would take precedence over my commitments as an employee. These sonnets sprang out of the four intense and enhancing years that we spent in 'the hedge-school-school of Glalmore.'"
