FIELD WORK

(London: Faber and Faber, 1979).

THE VERY SCARCE FIRST EDITION IN WRAPPERS OF THIS MASTERFUL COLLECTION. The wrapper issue is far less common than the hardcover and should be considered VERY RARE IN SUCH FINE CONDITION. FIELD WORK was Heaney's first collection of poetry to follow his much celebrated collection NORTH in 1975. It can be seen as a record of his years living in rural County Wicklow in the Republic of Ireland after leaving the violence of 'The Troubles'. The collection contains some of his best-loved poems, such as ‘Oysters’, ‘Casualty’, ‘The Skunk’, and the defining sequence ‘Glanmore Sonnets’. It has been cited by many – including the poet’s wife, Marie – as their favorite volume. Item #33670

First edition, the very scarce wrapper issue which was issued simultaneously with the more common issue in boards. 8vo, original yellow paper wrappers lettered on the spine and upper cover in black. 64 pp. A very fine copy, as pristine, very rarely encountered in such condition, especially for the scarce and delicate wrapper issue.
