For over 50 years the Allen Press produced de luxe limited editions entirely by hand, printing with hand-set types on handmade paper, choosing the text, developing the typography, printing on the handpress in several colours, illuminating by hand, binding, and publishing.
The present volume, includes new materials and examples and offers bibliographical details and personal notes on each of the five new titles. There is an Epilogue by Lewis Allen which describes the many decades of work, "An Apprecitation" by Carey Bliss of The Huntington Library, a checklist of ephermera and a complete and updated index. First Facsimile Edition, following the format of the original, printed on fine paper with fine typography by offset lithography under the direction of George Waters, and limited to 750 copies only. With the Original Prospectus for the book. Printed in red and black and including more than ninety examples of art work from the Allen Press books and ephemera, as well as reproductions of leaves from their books and at least one original leaf. Folio, 13.75 x 9 inches, handsomely bound in full Dutch cloth, the title printed in gilt on the spine and with a decorative Columbian hand-press blocked in blind on the upper cover. 124 pp. A very fine copy, as pristine.
