IDYLLS OF THE KING

(London: Edward Moxon & Co., 1859).

SCARCE AND IMPORTANT FIRST EDITION IN THE ORIGINAL CLOTH. An expansion of Tennyson's "Morte d'Arthur," THE IDYLLS OF THE KING was well received, and helped to restore Tennyson's popularity after the critical failure of his previous volume of poems. This, the first of the Idylls to be published, tells the stories of Guinevere, Elaine and Lancelot, Vivien and Merlin, and Enid and Geraint. Item #34680

First Edition, First Issue with no imprint on the verso of the title-page. 8vo, publisher’s original olive green ribbed cloth, blindstamped on the covers and gilt-lettered on the spine. [8], 261 pp. Essentially a fine copy, the textblock uncommonly fresh and bright with little sign of use, the cloth also well preserved and attractive, slightly shaken at the rear inner hinge. A very pleasing copy.
