REVOLT IN THE DESERT
(Garden City: Garden City Publishing Company, [Circa 1927]).
A HANDSOME EARLY PRINTING of the first publicly issued text of SEVEN PILLARS OF WISDOM prepared by Lawrence after the private printing of that book and edited by him for the general trade. Jonathan Cape had planned a new edition of REVOLT IN THE DESERT to come out after Lawrence death, but Lawrence’s estate permitted instead the printing of the trade edition of the full text of SEVEN PILLARS instead. Thus, the work in this form was obtainable for only a very brief period of time. Item #34872
An early reissue of the first American edition, originally issued by George A. Doran. With a frontispiece portrait of Lawrence from the portrait by Augustus John and pictorial endpapers, and with a fold out sketch map in the rear 8vo, publisher’s original tan cloth, the upper cover lettered and decorated with a bust in dark brown, the spine lettered and decorated with a camel caravan in brown. xii, [ii], i, 335 pp. including the index. A nicely preserved copy, the text-block and cloth just lightly mellowed.
