LIFE WITH THE HAMRAN ARABS. An Account of a Sporting Tour of Some Officers of the Guards in the Soudan During the Winter of 1874-5

(London: Smith, Elder, & Co., 1876).

RARE FIRST EDITION IN THE ORIGINAL DECORATED CLOTH. Myers' is a recounting of a sporting tour in Soudan taken with friends diruing the winter of 1874-75. The tour began with an arrival in Cairo and a desert journey into the interior parts of Soudan on a trek in search of the animals native to the area. There is much here in the way of a description of Arab life and the customs and social and cultural mores of the time as well as Arab methods for taking game and engaging in the hunt. The book also draws early descriptions of an area not often visited by Europeans and is a fine source work for the period and the geography. Item #70066
