HIGHLANDS OF AETHIOPIA [ETHIOPIA]

HIGHLANDS OF AETHIOPIA [ETHIOPIA]

(London: Longman, Brown, Green and Longmans, 1844).

FINE FIRST EDITION OF THIS CORNERSTONE WORK IN THE AFRICAN OEUVRE. Harris was the head of the mission sent by the British Government to open up relations with the Ancient Christian Kingdom of Shoa in the Ethiopian highlands. His success in this pursuit earned him a knighthood. He was as well, one of the earliest explorers to penetrate the highland country. This is one of the most important of all books in general Africana and a cornerstone of any collection of books on Africa. Item #70120
