A special attribute of the book is an attempt for the first time to provide a list of the animals, especially the land animals and the birds that live in the region explored by the author. Illustrated throughout with engravings, photogravures and photographs both full-page and throughout the text, and with a folding map at the end of the volume. 8vo, publisher's original light green cloth, the spine lettered in gilt, the upper cover lettered in dark brown and decorated with a pictorial illustration of the author and his dogs in gilt. xv, 345, 2 ads pp. A very good copy, quite well preserved, the text-block clean and in good order as are the illustrations, the binding with light evidence of age or use primarily at the tips, some mellowing to the cloth at the edges and somewhat more at the spine panel.
