POLITICAL HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT. With Thirteen Cuts.

(London: William Hone, 1819).

A RARE SURVIVAL AND AN EXTREMELY EARLY ISSUE OF THE WORK, PROBABLY THE FIRST WITH NO LATER EDITIONS NOTED ON THE TITLE-PAGE. Cruikshank's take on the politics of the day and a work which took aim at the politicians and issues active at the time. The author was democratic in his tendencies and railed at the powers that controlled wealth and power and the manner in which they controlled these things. A pleasing verse poem with illustrations on virtually every page. Item #70197

The "Fine Edition", probably the first, with no later editions noted on the title-page. With thirteen engraved illustrations by George Cruikshank. 8vo, original stitched wraps, now protected in a simple black paper binding. 24 pp. A fine copy, untrimmed and as issued, light mellowing and a bit of very light spotting as is expected, much less than is usually encountered.
